Pentridge Jail: Panopticon Pursuit
Brief
How do we shape the future of hospitable places in Melbourne? This project centered on transforming our perceptions and interactions with Coburg’s Pentridge Jail. Partnering with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria), we were tasked with designing shelf-ready products to enhance tourism. These designs needed to reflect Pentridge’s rich history and identity while aligning with the National Trust’s values and goals.
Solution
Panopticon Pursuit is an educational board game inspired by the infamous panopticon structures of old Pentridge jail. Historically, these structures acted as a means of constant surveillance over prisoners. The product aims to pay tribute to this architecture while being sensitive to the ethics involved with creating souvenirs for a historically hostile space.
