ZeroTag: E-Labels for Sustainable Retail

Brief

ZeroTag is a Melbourne-based startup developing a unique product, service, and system design solution that aims to eliminate single-use plastic waste in the food and beverage industries.

Over the course of my Multimedia Artist internship with them in 2023, I was tasked to communicate present-day challenges for (disable-bodied and/or sustainability-minded) consumers and how their shopping experience might change with ZeroTag.

Solution

The internship emphasized research into the circular economy model of business and accessible design. Deliverables included illustration, signage, e-packaging, sonic branding, and social media templates.

ZeroTag partners with Gram Sustainable in Elwood to create physical and digital labels for their wine on tap.

Following site visits, I created proportional schematics of the wall to guide the dimensions of a physical labeling system. Easily detectable QR codes would lead customers to an e-label that could be conveniently updated with the latest prices. Both physical and e-labels were designed with the visually-impaired in mind and could be easily read by a phone’s voice control features.

Illustrated Guides

A suite of illustrations were created to guide users through the ZeroTag e-labeling system and promote their service.

A Lil’ Something Extra

ZeroTag partners with local illustrators to create dishwasher-safe stickers promoting their brand, values, and example use-cases.

Here’s a fun set I made! These are now on sale on their web store.
